Prince Tigerius Mahmoud Shabaz, better known as Tiger, is Gladys' former pet Persian cat and Stella's new boyfriend. He serves as an obstacle to the wild animals until Stella disguises as a cat and wins his heart with her toughness.

He is voiced by Omid Djalili.

Biography[]

Beginnings[]

Not much is known about his past, except when he mentions some of his family to Stella in the film. He mentions his father, who apparently had such a severe flat-face that he could barely breathe.

In Over the Hedge[]

Tiger first encounters the wild animals when they dig through Gladys' trash after RJ explains human food culture to them. He comes out of the door to discover the animals, and he angrily shoos them away. This causes Gladys to come see what's happening, and she is horrified by the animals. She attacks them with a broom, scaring the animals back into the woods.

Tiger does not appear again until the final heist at Gladys' home. RJ devised a plan to disguise Stella as a black cat to distract Tiger with her "feminine charm" and get his collar as the key to opening the pet door into the house. Tiger is repulsed by Stella's stray-ness, sneezing because of her and bidding her filth away. Stella, already fed up with this kind of reaction she gets for being a skunk, drops her act and lashes out at him with her words, berating him into a corner. He sees this as bold, and becomes interested in her. Tiger talks to her about his life the entire night long while the animals steal the food inside the house. Evidently, such a night causes them to fall in love with each other. In the morning, Gladys discovers the animals in her kitchen. The racket of noise alerts Stella and Tiger, the former of who hurries to check it out. Tiger screams for her to come back. Inside, Stella loses her disguise and reveals herself as a skunk to Tiger, spraying the whole house. Stella assumed Tiger would be bothered by it, but it turns out, he has no sense of smell. Stella is thrilled by it.

Dwayne (the Verminator) breaks into the house with a net gun, and Tiger pushes Stella out of the way so that he can get caught in a net instead of her. The family ends up getting netted by the Verminator anyway.

After being absent for the final battles of the movie against the antagonists, Tiger calls for Stella and finds her and the other animals just outside of the hedge, celebrating. He runs to her for a hug, and - having never been in the wilderness before - tells Stella that he likes it. Though it's not explicitly stated, he now becomes part of the family.

Tiger makes a cameo appearance, but is not a playable character.

Personality[]

Tiger is a highly sophisticated, well-treated, somewhat arrogant and talkative Persian cat who adores his owner Gladys. He speaks with a heavy Persian accent. He has never been spoken to rudely and is thus shocked when Stella goes off at him, but soon becomes love-struck because of it. He is highly protective, first over Gladys and then Stella. Being raised and spoiled by humans, he has a disliking for stray pets and non-domestic animals that gets remedied after he falls in love with Stella.

After reuniting with Stella in the woods, Tiger becomes more laidback, carefree, and friendly. He is deeply invested in Stella.

Appearance[]

Tiger is a sturdy but chubby tan-colored Persian cat. He has a flat, round face with fat cheeks, small ears, a dark brown nose, short legs, small paws, and bright blue eyes. He used to wear a blue-gray collar.

Trivia[]

  • Tiger is strangely absent from the movie's post-credits scene at the vending machine, despite it being implied at the end of the movie that he joined the family and hooked up with Stella.
  • He is one of two pets in the film that the animals encounter, the other being Nugent the dog. Unlike Nugent, however, Tiger seems to have a level of intelligence and personality on par with the wild animals (which makes sense, as he joins the family).
  • It can be inferred that, after getting himself netted, Tiger freed himself and went looking for Stella after Dwayne took off with all the animals in his truck. This is because Tiger is no longer inside Gladys' house when the animals crash Dwayne's truck into it. The pillar of light emitted by the Depelter Turbo likely alerted Tiger to Stella's location.
  • Tiger refers to Stella as his "passion flower" in the last cutscene of the video game. Skunks are often juxtaposed with flowers, which is ironic for their foul-smelling spray.
  • When Stella leaves him, Tiger grabs his head and screams Stella's name in a clear reference to A Streetcar Named Desire
    • According to a concept art of the film, Tiger's name was going to be Stanley, which would've also been a reference to the character who screams Stella's name
